Refugee Week 2022

A Day of Welcome! We shared the story The Suitcase as one of our acts of kindness, as part of our Refugee Week. After we listened to the story we drew pictures to show everyone is welcome. ☺️

We had fun making fruit kebabs today and then sharing them with our class governor, Glyn. Another act of kindness for Refugee Week, A Day of Welcome!! 🫐🍌🍇🍓

Autumn 1: What makes us special? 

This half-term we will be learning all about what makes us who we are! We will be looking at what makes us similar and celebrating our differences!

We will be exploring different types of puppets and we will be taking part in a puppet workshop making our very own puppet which reflects who we are! 

Autumn 2: How can we show kindness?

This half-term we will be finding out how we can show kindness! We will be thinking about charities and the important work they do helping others. We will be exploring the ways we can help people who are less fortunate than ourselves.

We will be reading simple stories about kindness, following, sequencing and writing instructions and talking about the things we have made. We will also be counting to 10, weighing vegetables and exploring 2D and 3D shapes.

We are also looking forward to our school Christmas fayre and will be making decorations and bath bombs to sell. All the money raised will go to charity!!

Things to Remember this half-term;

• Please check Seesaw and complete the weekly activities to support your child's learning at home. 
• If possible we are collecting tinned soup to give to the local food bank. Your child will get 2 kindness points for every tin of soup they donate!!

Which vegetables are heavy/ light? How do we know? Green bubble are having fun finding out independently!

Year 1 had so much fun spreading kindness with their rainbow wands. They spread so much kindness with their circles, spirals and lines, that they created an amazing rainbow over our school 🌈 Well done Year 1!

This week we have been busy spreading kindness by making our own kindness rainbow wands!

We had lots of fun making 2d shape snowflakes! Look at our snowflakes what 2d shapes can you see?

We have been busy making kindness cups in class 1! We are going to fill them with kindness deeds ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍

Thank you Miss Wills for helping us create amazing bath salts! They smell beautiful, we can’t wait to use them. 😀🛁

Spring 1: Tell me a rhyme…

This half term we will be learning lots of new rhymes and poems! We are looking forward to welcoming Cardiff library who will be leading a rhyme time session just for us! We will also be writing our own rhyming strings and sentences.🤩

This week we have had lots of fun practising our new dance ‘Here we go round the Mulberry Bush’.

We had lots of fun with shakers in Year 1 this week! We even made our own! 🎶

Children’s Mental Health Week 2022
We have had a lovely week thinking about what makes us happy! We made fantastic happy sun mobiles and drew pictures of the things that make us happy😀! 
 

We planted sunflowers to remind us we are growing, changing and learning new things everyday. We are all special! We promise to look after our sunflowers to help them grow just like the special people in our lives help us to grow!🤩

World Book Day 2022!

We really enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day! Everyone thought we looked fantastic! Next week we can’t wait to finish and present our own Rhyme Time book. We will put it on Seesaw for you to see, we really hope you enjoy it! 📚📖

Science Week

We are really enjoying science week in year 1! Our theme is ‘growing’. We read the story Jaspers Beanstalk and then decided to plant our own bean seeds. We wanted to find out if seeds need soil grow so we decided to plant seeds in cotton wool, tissue paper, newspaper and fabric! We wonder if they will grow?🔍🔍

We went on a plant hunt, look at all the plants we found growing in our school garden. We found out plants need water and sunlight to grow! 🌤💧🌧

Saint David’s Day Competition Winners

Summer 1: What makes a good play area? 

This term we will be thinking about our new school and designing our own rooftop play area!! We will be visiting a park and discussing what we like to do at the park to help with our designs. We will be presenting our ideas to our class governor to take to the planning committee. 

We collected data to find out what we like to do best at playtime on our playground. Can you use the block graph to find out what we like to do the most/ least? 

We have started brushing our teeth this half term in year1! We brush our teeth everyday after lunch for 2mins! 🪥🦷🪥

If you go down in the woods today your sure of a big surprise!!!!! We have had so much fun at the Teddy Bears picnic this week!!! 🧸

Summer 2

Come to the Carnival! This half term we are learning all about the Butetown Carnival. We will be getting creative this half term by thinking about pattern and colour! We will be designing and making a symmetrical mask and learning a Canival dance. We are really looking forward to welcoming Keith Murrell the lead organiser of the Butetown Carnival to our school. 

We really hope you can come to our Carnival! 🌈
